Captain Blackaxe and his merry men were a band of deadly pirates that ruled the seven seas. Feared by many for their brazen rampages across port to port, no ship nor vessel dared to set sail on the waters beyond nightfall. For at the stroke of dusk, the larcenous Captain was sure to be prowling the waters, stalking for unsuspecting victims.
The Pirates lavished in treasures and spoils stolen from innocent passing ships that fell prey. Drinking all day and pilfering through the night, Blackaxe and his men believed themselves to be unstoppable. After-all, often did they boast that their riches surpassed that of the King’s and that their entire wealth could effortlessly overfill the palace vaults. Indeed, all their riches were too vast for storage aboard their colossal ship, so the Captain uncovered a location to store the bulk of their loot. A location that was to be later called Treasure Island.
It was said that every full moon, the Captain and his men had a tradition. They would refrain from a night of robbery in favor of honoring their fallen comrades in a flamboyant bonfire party on Treasure Island’s shores. At the bonfire festivities, the pirates would drink and entertain themselves with rhyme and song as the fires burnt brightly into the cold night.
During bonfire night, Captain Blackaxe would sit atop his chair with his most valued treasure in hand, an item said to be the King’s only drinking vessel, the royal Golden Goblet. A sigh of bold effrontery to the imperial command, the Captain felt gratified at such a blatant display of impertinence. For numerous times, the King had sent many a brave to topple the Captain and return the Goblet to the custody of the Regency.
Many attempts to overturn the pirates proved abortive as they were simply unrivalled at sea. Their blades were too swift and the luck of the tides seemed to always favor their side. Weary of the pirate’s grisly acts, the King declared an ultimate reward for the person who would secure the Captain’s downfall. Dead or alive, Blackaxe had to be stopped.
One cold foggy night of an eerie full moon, the Captain and his pirates were enjoying their traditional bonfire revelry and simply lost their guard. Drunk from the confidence that they were unmatched on water, the bandits never fathomed an assault on land. A brave Admiral and his army of courageous men fought long and hard in a successful swashbuckling encounter with the pirates. Brought before the King, the Captain and his pirates returned all the stolen loot but failed to divulge the exact whereabouts of his prized Golden Goblet.
Unremorsefully, the Captain boasted that he had buried the Golden Goblet in the deepest jungles of Treasure Island and that without his map, it would forever lay unclaimed. Unyielding to the King’s threats, the Captain and his men were sentenced to the dungeons for one hundred long years.
