The ten Heroes tasted the first baptism of nature on their first night at Awgu Hills. They were seriously flogged and taught bitter lesson by the rains for failing to erect a roof over their heads. Not even the raincoat provided as part of their kits for the search of the lost chronicle could help matters.

The episode last night, revealed the ten warriors advancing through Enugu/Mmaku road junction into Awgu Hills, only to locate heaps of  bamboo sticks, mats, tarpaulin and other building materials, early enough in the day for them to erect their camp. Obviously looking tired and fagged out, after the long distant trek through the tough and rough terrain of the jungle and climbing the hills, they fell into relaxed mood while going through the contents of the big bag they were kitted with. Frank Adamu felt the concern. He sounded the reminder on the need for them to have a shelter over their heads. No one heeds his warning or took him serious. The heavens opened up to a torrential down pour in the night. To ward off the rain, some break into singing: “rain, rain, go away…”. But that was not enough to appease the rain. They went for their raincoat and were compelled to lay their heads on the bare and very harsh, wet and unfriendly open air space in the jungle. The rain storm was tortures and lasted far into the night.

The daring heroes could have also spent the night on empty stomach but for the magnanimity of the presenter, Bob-Manuel Udokwu. He came around with the food basket they left behind at Enugu/Mmanku junction where they wondered into the hills. The bananas were 17 and they have to device a sharing formular to go round the ten of them. Bob did not leave without the strong reminder that they should always keep their eyes and ears opened to clues that could lead them to finding the ‘Lost Chronicle’. He equally gave a tall order: “when I talk, nobody talks”.

They managed to prepare dinner which they devoured like hungry lions after the rains. Okop M. JJ appeared to be the Oliver Twist on the search. He was repeatedly called upon to collect remnants.  They later spoke on their chances of winning the competition as they set out with the master plan for the construction of their camp after the troublesome rain storm in Awgu Hills.

Earlier on the programme, a brief history of Enugu state and its vast natural endowment and social-cultural and economic values were highlighted. It was disclosed that the railways was constructed in the state, renowned for its coal minerals, in 1916. It was further revealed that Awgu hills, location for the ultimate search five, this year could be very cool and wet at this point in time as the rain is at its peak and could be very hot if the whether permits.

There was also the "Meet the GUS Heroes" segment of the show where the ten contestants spoke about their family backgrounds, educations, ambitions, likes and dislikes and what makes them thick for the search. Some looked back at the population of over 25,000 candidates that competed with them and the strenuous and very rigorous screening and selection process they passed through to be counted as one of the chosen ones for the search and vowed that “there is now going back but to see the end of it all and possibly emerge the last man standing.

The ultimate search continues tomorrow. Don’t go away.
