As the Order of Heroes on Hunting expedition in Search of the Horn of Valour nears the peak of their Search inside the deep jungle of Omodo forest, in Aagba, Osun State, “evictions has been happening fast and furiously” as returnee Narrator, Femi Sowoolu observed. A neatly strangle montage of recap of eviction show reloaded scenes of eviction of Ada, Debby, Wale, Chuks.
The latest eviction casualties, Oseyi and Elvis made their way to Palm-Boo Camp from the Place of the Talking Drum for the last time. While Oseyi put an insect repellant herb on the fire for the remaining Hunters in the contest, Elvis murmured that his eviction must have been by divine providence. “I think God has His reason for me dropping. Everybody has his reason to stop somewhere. I believe there’s going to be a better life from here for me.” |
 |
Palm-Boo Camp’s philosopher, Oseyi is fast adjusting to life after the jungle. She said during her interview that it was her knack for adventure that made her enter GUS.
“Actually, my curiousity brought me here and my friends support kept me here. I didn’t believe I could do it, they believe in me. For that, I’m grateful to all of them… I thank Gulder for giving me the opportunity to come to Aagba forest and experience the wild; this is my greatest adventure forever. So, thank you Nigerian Breweries. I appreciate the chance you have given to me.” |

Out there in the larger society, Elvis confessed he felt strange seeing water running from the tap. “I was surprised to appreciate water running out of the tap. It was so important that it feels you never felt like that before. To have a hot bath… it was something so different. I begin to appreciate civilization…
“The experience in the jungle is something that will never leave your memory. It’s just like your birthday. You never forget your birthday. That’s how the jungle is for me. It’s something that will never ever leave me. It’s one experience, I think everybody out should get once in a life time, because you have to appreciate nature to know how to adapt. I think the jungle experience means I could adapt and survive anywhere, no matter what it takes.”
Uche sees Elvis as a “jester.” According to him, Elvis “used to make people laugh. Even though he was always to himself, he was a cool guy; he was more of an entertainer. We really felt his presence here in the camp.” Chisom added that though the camp missed Elvis’ presence and joviality, “then game has to continue.” |
 |
Elvis believed he has done well to earn the respect of his family. “My parents are definitely going to be proud of me. My six sisters, hmm… when they watch me on TV, they are going to be shouting… I can’t wait for what they are going to say, because I know they will be very proud.”
What is more, Elvis feels good about himself and he is proud of his accomplishment in the jungle. “I’m feeling good about myself. I’m proud. A lot of people may not know what it means to me. Being the Ultimate Man is nothing, but being among the top five men in Nigeria to stand out and come for Gulder Ultimate Search makes me a proud man. The future has just started. I think the future holds more than enough for me already. I believe God brought me this far. For God to bring me this far, I think He has a well planned outline for me… I believe this is jus a stepping stone to what I’m going to do in future.” |
 |
Oseyi said she was torn between eating her first good meal and taking her bath when she got to her hotel from straight from the jungle and back into civilization. “There was a bit of drama… I didn’t want to leave the plate there, because I wasn’t sure I was going to see it there when I come back, because it was so long before I saw a hot plate of food.
“Eventually, I decided to have my bath. I saw the shower, hot water, cold water… I couldn’t believe it, because it has been so long. I bathed with the hot water; I bathed with the cold water… Eventually, I eat the food. It was lovely. It was a day to remember. |
 |
“Normally, when I meet new people, after talking with them like 30 seconds, they are either calling a doctor or a psychiatrist home or they are discussing among themselves whether to lock me in or throw me out, but the people in the jungle didn’t do any of those things. They took me as a normal, not crazy human being. So, I’ll say that they gave me a good welcome, fair treatment and… they are good people.”
Chisom corroborated her: “I missed her very well because she’s no more there to sing and cry for the insects… She makes the camp lively, she would sing; and this her cartoon, cartoon life… She’s fun; but like I said, someone has to go.” |
 |
“Oseyi learnt some strange things about herself from the jungle. “I don’t like crawling through holes; there was this task that they made us crawl under a net on wet cold ground. I don’t think I want to do it again anytime soon… Again, I think I am improving on my speaking out strategy; when I see public speaking, I’ll rather be behind and screaming than to stay in from of camera and speaking. I think I’m doing a good job, or there’s a lot of work to be done. That was also good. Then I got assured that my I could still keep my temper in control. That was good also. Then again, all those survival stunts, building fire with bamboo, insecticide from orange pills, and the beauty of team work… the jungle taught me a wholelot of things. It pushed me, it trouble, but I think I won eventually. I was not afraid of the jungle.”
Melvin feels bad over Oseyi’s eviction, but he’s happy for her because “she surpassed her expectation” in the jungle. Oseyi could not agree less. “When I started and the first task was given to me, the idea was just to start, be among the top 10 and then bow out gracefully. Yes, I surprised myself, because I never thought I could do that much… I don’t believe… I surprised myself. |
 |
Oseyi believes she doesn’t have to wait for too long for her future to come. After GUS VI, she says, “My future from here? It has to be bright. My future has been promising, it’s now time to collect on the promise. I’ll have to finish school first before I do anything drastic, because degree is quite important in the society today and Nigeria also. So, I will get my degree. Then, pursue my dreams, reach for the skies… From time, I’ve always had this thing for radio for presentation. It’s time for me to give it a trial.” |

For the four Order of Heroes left in the Search for the Horn of Valour, the show must go on despite the double eviction witnessed the previous night.
Though, still stunned by the double eviction they witnessed, they woke up to a brighter mood the following morning as Melvin took them through the compulsory morning exercises.
The four Order of Heroes left in the Search spent most part of the morning recalling events of the past weeks of the venture into the deep jungle of Omodo for in Search of the Horn of Valour. The reminisce over the building of the first Palm-Boo Camp, the rigours of their tasks, the competitiveness each contestants brought every individual tasks, starvation in the jungle and all the survival stunts they have been made to pull to conquer the jungle in their Search so far.
Then they comment on the exit of Oseyi and Elvis. Vivien says “Oseyi is my very good friend. She’s smart, though she’s not that strong, she has a lot of strength inside of her. All the same, she has to go, because if she hasn’t gone, I would have.”
Uche says “Elvis was very close to me. He was a friend. We’ve always been roommates from Sea School. His eviction was like an advantage to me because we are both going for the same thing. We both wanted the same thing.”
For Chisom, Elvis’ eviction just has to be because “some has to go.” Indeed, Melvin also takes Elvis’ eviction as an advantage. “The competition has just reduced.”
Done with reminiscences, they try to figure out the clue given to them at the Place of the Talking Drum last night. Chisom appear to have the answer to the riddle. Uche promises her a corn (that food item that brought so much shame and trouble to their camp earlier in the Search). |
 |
Finding the clue to the day’s task, they set off to meet Bob-Manuel Udokwu, the Show Presenter. It was long and exhaustive walk to the place of the task.
“Today our task is going to reflect testing you in the air. But before then, there is a riddle to be solved.”
The day’s task is another hunt for food in the air. Calabashes bearing foodstuff are suspended on tree branches, palm tress, etc and the Searchers are expected to climb and cut down for themselves sometimes crossing on hanging rope bridges and sundry obstacles on their way.
According to the Narrator, Femi Sowoolu, “The jungle is thick and overgrown and visibility is impaired.” This is what they had to wade through, climbing tress, palm tress, ropes and other obstacles to hunt calabashes of food, and search for the legendary hunter’s belongings left on their trail.
At last, they found the hunter cutlass hanging under a growth at the river bank. |
 |
The joy of successfully completing the task must have boosted the morale of the Hunters. Soon, they began to boast again.
Uche says the various tasks have given him a boost. “From the beginning of the Ultimate Search up until now, I would say that my confidence level has increased tremendously. Not just to physical things, but psychological things. I know that if I am going to face a problem, even when it’s so tough, it’s so fierce and I think I cannot pass it, I know I’ll be able to pass it right now because, from Sea School time till now, all the tasks have made you feel ‘oh, you think you can’t do this?’ at the end of the day you pass through them. You are going to be able to, not just physical, but psychological deal with problems in life.”
In same manner, Vivien believes her “self confidence has grown, because there are some things I don’t just do on normal days, some things I don’t have the confidence of the courage for, I mean normally, the only time I go the water is when I go to the pool. But now, I go to natural water, full of rocks, not minding the depths to get some things… My courage has grown far more than I expected. Gulder Ultimate Search ahs really groomed me. So I feel that mu confidence has grown.
Melvin feels the same. A lot of people that thought they were better than me have since dropped out; I’m still here (in the Search) today. I think I’m actually better than I thought.”
As the Search nears its conclusion, Uche says he realize the seriousness of the situation on ground. “For the fact that we are four and anything can happen in the Ultimate Search. One or two people might just leave. That will even make it more serious. What is the seriousness we are talking about? Winning the Ultimate Search. This is like the final stages. There’s nothing more serious than these stages…” |
